This two-year study tested the SuROI approach developed by Prof. Bichard in three contrasting contexts. The aim of the study was to help conventional built environment valuers to understand and appreciate the importance of incorporating social and environmental value in development projects. The study illustrated the methods used to calculate the monetary value of environmental and social change in under-invested areas. The project applied a range of valuation tools such as Social Return on Investment and Ecosystem Services Analysis in variety of case studies in the USA (Pittsburgh), Brazil (Porto Alegre) and the UK (East Salford).
