The Social Hub (TSH) brand provides hotels, student accommodation and co working spaces, creating a more connected community. Adding to 21 locations arounds Europe, in November 2022, it opened a new 14 floor building in the up-and-coming area of Poblenou, Barcelona. TSH wants to improve its social, economic and environmental performance across Europe and has developed plans to upgrade the Barcelona site.
To support the assessment of current sites and future plans, TSH contacted RealWorth to demonstrate the social value of TSH Barcelona, RealWorth measured and analysed the social change caused by projects and programmes using Social Return On Investment (SROI).
To undertake this study, RealWorth:
- Performed a contextual review of Poblenou and the City of Barcelona
- Conducted a review of existing documents to identify features, stakeholders, and potential outcomes
- Undertook a site visit to TSH Barcelona which included data collection through a series of interviews with employees and the users of the TSH Barcelona offer
- Analysed the data using the Social Return on Investment (SROI) methodology
- Evaluated and reported the findings
This analysis assisted TSH’s Barcelona site in demonstrating the benefits of existing sites to its stakeholders and wider city by creating a range of social impact activities. The analysis indicated that the planned improvements could enhance the social value that these locations have brought to their surrounding areas.
