  • Perkins&Will: Social Value Framework

    Project Description

Perkins&Will is a global design practice with a strong internal culture of social purpose. Much of its social impact activity has historically been ad-hoc or untracked.

With social value now a growing requirement in bids — especially in the public sector — the firm identified a need to define and measure its impact more strategically.

    How we Helped

RealWorth developed a bespoke Social Value Framework based on the national TOMs (Themes, Outcomes, Measures) model.

The framework bridges Perkins&Will’s internal values with external expectations and outlines a roadmap for implementation, reporting, and continuous improvement — with Year One positioned as a pilot phase.

    This work provided Perkins&Will with:

    • A bespoke Social Value Framework aligned with the TOMs model and client priorities

    • Clear guidance for applying social value activities across both internal initiatives and external projects

    • Defined targets, milestones and governance processes to enable practical delivery across the firm

    • Recommendations for embedding qualitative, narrative-led insights alongside quantitative TOMs metrics

    • A scalable approach for future annual reporting and longer-term programme development

    Work and Job Quality
The framework strengthened the business’s ability to track inclusive recruitment, mentoring, and internal career development activity.

    Education and Skills
Provided clearer structures to align and monitor Perkins&Will’s outreach, training and knowledge-sharing with underrepresented groups and future talent.

    Subjective Wellbeing
Captured how internal wellbeing initiatives — from mental health support to flexible working — contribute to a positive workplace culture.

    Civic Engagement
Clarified how design and engagement processes can create more meaningful, socially responsible project outcomes across sectors like healthcare and education.
